Tips to Reduce your Carbon Footprint

So…what is a Carbon Footprint?

A measure of the total amount of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere as the result of an individual’s, organization’s or nation’s actions. It is usually measured in tons of CO2e (Carbon dioxide equivalent).

Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases block the heat from escaping the earth’s atmosphere and cause the Earth to warm up at an unnatural rate.

Our actions clearly have an impact on the environment and it’s time to CHANGE!!

Here are some easy ways to REDUCE your carbon footprint:

1) Stop using Plastic bags and Single Use Plastic

Plastic pollutes our oceans and waterways and they require a lot of energy to produce and recycle. Use reusable bags for your shopping and carry a bottle with you wherever you go!

2) Walk or Cycle for small trips

Walking and cycling is good for your health and good for the planet. It’s also the most environmentally friendly way to travel .

3) Eat Green, Fresh, local produce

The food we eat has a significant impact on the environment. Meat and dairy products need a lot of water, energy and land to produce and generate greenhouse gases like Methane.
By eating local foods, sourced responsibly you can make a big difference. Why not support your local farmer’s market or grow your own fruits and vegetables wherever possible.

4) Save Energy

Make sure you turn off lights and appliances when not in use. You could also install energy efficient LED bulbs or other renewable energy sources like solar power. You must turn off the airconditioning whenever possible.

5) Manage your Waste

Your trash can only be recycled if it is properly separated. Reduce, reuse and recycle within your home to ensure that only a very small pile of trash hits the landfill. Paper, plastic, water, electronic devices – all have a carbon footprint. By reusing and recycling waste wherever possible you can help the environment.
Remember landfills produce dangerous greenhouse gases and impact the environment.

6) Use less Water

Water is a precious natural resource and we have to use it very carefully. Turn off the taps everytime. By using less water, you can hep the environment and reduce your carbon footprint. Never ever waste water!

7) Travel

Use Public Transport / Car pooling to travel within your city.
The carbon emissions of Air Travel is the highest and so many airlines give you the option to offset your carbon emissions. This is an extra cost that covers investment in projects that reduce carbon emissions Eg. Restoring forests, making transportation more energy efficient etc.

Did You Know?

You can now Measure and track your carbon emissions through the really smart AQ Green TeC App . The live dashboard measures and tracks monthly carbon emissions associated with activities, such as what you eat and how your travel and can show you your total CO2 e emissions split by month – Isn’t that great ?
